Lucky Wheel
When: roughly every two weeks, with a rotating hero lineup. Duration is unsettled — video guides say two days in one place and three in another (BEST GUESS 017). Reachable from the Perks section on your home screen. What it is: a wheel you spin with lucky coins, targeting golden (legendary) hero shards for a hero you choose. Why it matters: it is the main recurring free-to-play route to targeted shards of rotating legendary heroes. It is not the only route — Bach sits in the standard recruitment pool and the trade shop sells golden hero shards — but nothing else lets you aim at a specific legendary for free (BEST GUESS 040).
The short version¶
- Bank gems for weeks before the event. A full bank is the entire strategy.
- Claim your free daily spin every day it runs.
- Choose your target hero before you spin — pick the one closest to a milestone.
- Spin in batches of ten and skip the animation.
- Watch the draw progress track; it persists all event and pays once.
- Top up with cheap general hero shards from the trade shop.
- If you pay: buy the small and mid bundles, never the largest one.
How many gems do you actually need?¶
Two very different answers are in circulation, and the gap matters:
- 500 gems per spin. One documented run spent 30,000 gems (60 spins) on a hero already holding 38 shards and still finished roughly 50 shards short of maxing him.
- "Save about 4,000 gems for each Lucky Wheel so you can take a copy of each new legendary hero." At 500 per spin that is 8 spins.
These are probably answering different questions — 4,000 gems for the 10 shards to unlock a hero, versus 30,000 to star one up. But do not plan on the strength of that assumption. See BEST GUESS 016.
The safe read: 4,000 gems is a floor for touching a new legendary. Tens of thousands is what starring one up costs.
Step 1 — Hoard gems, because gems are the whole game here¶
There are exactly three ways to get lucky coins: one free spin per day, gems at 500 gems per spin, and paid lucky coin bundles that exist only during the event window.
For a free player, that reduces to one sentence: your result is determined by how many gems you saved. A player entering with 30,000 gems gets 60 spins. A player who spent gems finishing buildings and research all fortnight gets the daily free spin and nothing else.
So treat every gem expenditure elsewhere as a Lucky Wheel spin you are giving up. Never spend gems to complete a building, finish a research, or rush troop training — that is what alliance help and speed-ups are for. A 1,200-gem instant-finish is two and a half spins. Spending 50 gems on something trivial is fine; spending 1,200 is not.
This is the single highest-leverage habit in the free-to-play game. See Free-to-Play Playbook.
Step 2 — Pick your target hero deliberately¶
Tap the change button to see the heroes available this cycle. Two things govern the list:
Server age. Older servers get more heroes available. You will not see the full roster on a young server.
Rotation. The featured heroes change between events, so a hero available this time may not be next time — but there is a rotation, and old heroes do come back. Missing one is not permanent. New heroes are typically introduced here (Elias April 16, 2026; Scarlet May 28, 2026).
How to choose: pick the hero closest to a meaningful threshold — an unlock, or a star level you can actually reach this event. Shards accumulate, so partial progress is not wasted, but hitting a star upgrade converts shards into real power immediately.
Be realistic about the arithmetic. One player entered needing 191 shards to max a hero, spent 30,000 gems, and finished roughly 50 short. Maxing a hero in one event is not a normal outcome; closing most of a gap is.
Cheap top-up: before you start spinning, check the trade shop for general hero shards. They are discounted there and they convert directly into progress — one player went from 9 shards to 38 that way before spinning at all.
Step 3 — Spin efficiently¶
Claim the free daily spin every day the event runs. It is free and people forget it.
Use the ten-spin batch button rather than spinning one at a time, and skip the animation with the control in the left corner. With 60 spins to get through, this is the difference between a few minutes and a long sit.
Step 4 — Watch the draw progress track¶
Alongside the wheel there is a draw progress track that pays bonus hero shards at spin-count milestones. Two properties make it important:
It does not reset at server reset. It runs across the whole event, so spins on day one and day two count toward the same milestones.
Each chest can only be claimed once. Claim them as they unlock.
Rewards improve as you go, so a concentrated push gets you deeper into the track than spreading spins thinly. This is a genuine bonus source — one player reported 13 shards from a single 10-spin batch including the track payouts.
A sample prize table¶
From one event instance. Rates vary per instance, so treat this as illustrative, not as the odds you will face:
- Hero Shard x1 — 32.81%
- 1-Hour Universal Speedup x1 — 20.51%
- Food Level chest x1 — 18.27%
- Lucky Reward x2 — 6.56%
- Hero Shards x5 — 4.37%
- Featured hero shard x5 — 4.37%
- Iron / Wood / Electricity bundles — 2.73% each
- Gold bundle — 2.73%
Note what this implies: roughly a third of spins return a single shard, and about 4% return five of the featured hero's. The grind is real.
Step 5 — If you are paying, buy the cheap bundles only¶
The paid lucky coin bundles exist only during the event. The community verdict is consistent:
Avoid the largest pack. 100 spins for around $120 is poor value by any measure, and it gets worse the closer your heroes are to maxed.
The small and mid bundles are reasonable, particularly early in an account's life when every legendary hero is a large power jump.
Even if you buy, still hoard gems. Paid coins and gem spins stack; the bundles are a supplement, not a replacement.
What else you get¶
The wheel pays more than hero shards: speed-ups, food, skill books, and resources all appear. Treat those as a consolation, not a goal. The reason to play is the shards.
Is it fair?¶
Not especially, and the community says so. Three ways to get coins — one daily free spin, gems, and money — is thin; adding coins to daily missions would make it materially better. It is still the best free route to a chosen legendary, so play it every time.
